Lord President Brian Gill Under Pressure

(July 27, 2012)
A  freedom of information application is winging its way to Scotland's most senior law officer Lord Gill.

Concerns have now reached biblical proportions that more than fifty -one thousand civil and criminal cases still remain sisted /in abeyance some for more than ten years in courts from Wick to Peebles.

Unlike The Court of Session  Sheriff courts have no by-order rule to raise these matters after 6 months and thousands of legal cases remain undecided.

Scotish court services and clerks who are already under pressure would have to clear this backlog  so as not to be in breach of the European Court decisions.

This raises the vast cost to the public purse and litigants to resolve these matters.
