DRUMNADROCHIT MAN FOUND 'NON PROVEN' AT INVERNESS SHERIFF COURT

(January 29, 2010)
The website has just been informed that Drumnadrochit man, Stuart Hunt was found today at Inverness Sheriff Court that he was credible and reliable.

Sheriff Ian Abercrombie stated today that the witnesses against Mr Hunt were neither credible or reliable and that there were great inconsistencies in their evidence. Mr Hunt had been charged with assaulting a Mr Stuart Latham (a neighbour) and possibly breaching an interim ASBO.

In the bizarre turn of events, Sheriff Abercrombie proceeded to trial on Thursday 28th January without Mr Hunt having any form of legal representation. Mr Hunt explained the situation, that he was unable to obtain any defence counsel for that day. However, Sheriff Abercrombie insisted in continuing with the trial.

The Procurator Fiscal, with some alarm and half way through the proceedings suggested that another sheriff hear the case and was also at pains to tell the sheriff that he was putting Mr Hunt under undue pressure in insisting he could defend himself.

Sheriff Abercrombie refused to excuse himself in this matter although it was made abundantly clear to him that he was subject to a complaint in this matter.

The legal source for the website finds it alarming that Sheriff Abercrombie would hold a trial knowing that the accused was without legal respresentation and, as a lay person, Mr Hunt was unqualified to defend himself.
