DEPUTY CHIEF CONSTABLE REQUESTS WEBSITE REMOVE ENTRY

(July 18, 2008)
The website has today sought legal advice in response to a request from Deputy Chief Constable Adam Garry Sutherland MA of the Northern Constabulary.

Mr Sutherland has suggested that an entry on the 10th of July 2008 is inaccurate and wishes it removed from the website.

The story indicated that Andrew Laing, Area Procurator Fiscal had written to one M.J.A. Campbell of Leanaig Conon-Bridge in respect of a complaint against officers of the Northern Constabulary.  In his response to Mr Campbell, Mr Laing had informed DCC Sutherland of his decision and stated that it was a matter for Mr Sutherland to decide whether or not any disciplinary proceedings against his officers would be appropriate.  Mr Laing further stated in the letter that he must also be satisfied that prosecution would be in the "wider public interest".

The website has taken the view, under advice, that the Procurator Fiscal would not have given different advice or opinion to the Deputy Chief Constable, as he stated in his letter of the 9th July 2008 to Mr Campbell.

However, not withstanding the above and as an act of good faith, the website will remove that news item forthwith.  The website also offers Mr Sutherland an apology if in any way, he was distressed by that news item.
